I was born and raised in Chile and grew up going
to my parents' farms. As a child, I became fascinated
with the pests that affected orchards and vineyards.
My interest in agriculture stayed with me, and
I graduated from the University of Chile with
a bachelor's of science degree in agriculture,
with a minor in viticulture/pomology. My thesis
and work granted me a Fulbright and Ford scholarship
attending the University of California, Davis
receiving my master's in entomology. I have been
with the Department of Pesticide Regulation for
13 years. My job allows me to interact with farm
workers educating them on the importance of pesticide
safety and to work with growers on integrated
pest management and the use of reduced-risk pesticides.
I believe people should have a safe environment
and be knowledgeable about how to provide for
their personal safety.
