The California Department of Food and Agriculture, County Departments of Agriculture, other county agencies, and nurseries use ground applications of insecticides, such as bifenthrin, chlorpyrifos, diazinon, fenoxycarb, hydramethylnon, and pyriproxyfen to manage red imported fire ant infestations in Southern California. The Environmental Monitoring Branch of the Department of Pesticide Regulation monitors selected treatments to provide information on the concentrations of the chemicals in surface water, irrigation runoff, storm runoff, and ground water. In collaboration with the California Department of Fish and Game, toxicity of water samples to aquatic organisms was tested. The following are documents and reports on this project:
