DPR ONLINE BULLETIN

This informal, online bulletin from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) appears periodically. Our goal is to keep interested parties up to date on practical information, regulatory developments, and other announcements.

"FROM THE DIRECTOR" COLUMN
Chief Deputy Director Chris Reardon reports that regulations on agricultural fumigant pesticide applications made a dent in California's dirty air for the second consecutive year since they took effect in 2008.

CHUCK ANDREWS ELECTED PRESIDENT OF AAPCO
Chuck Andrews, DPR's associate director of the Pesticide Programs Division, has been elected president of the Association of American Pesticide Control Officials (AAPCO). AAPCO is comprised of state pesticide control officials in the United States and Canada. Andrews has 29 years of experience in pesticide regulation at DPR and the Department of Food and Agriculture. His current responsibilities at DPR include overseeing DPR program operations, advising the director on major policy matters and coordinating major policy implementation.

DONNA MARCIANO PROMOTED TO CHIEF OF PRODUCT COMPLIANCE BRANCH
Donna Marciano has been named chief of our Product Compliance Branch. She has been acting since former Chief Lynn Owen retired in February. She previously was staff services manager. Marciano, who has a degree in natural resources management from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, has worked for DPR since 2001.

BILL DOUGLAS NAMED INTERIM EXECUTIVE OFFICER/REGISTRAR OF STRUCTURAL PEST CONTROL BOARD
Bill Douglas has been named interim executive officer/registrar of the Structural Pest Control Board following the retirement of Kelly Okuma in April. Douglas has a degree in criminal justice from National University and has worked at the board since 2010. He was chief enforcement officer before being named interim. Douglas worked in numerous positions in the state Department of Consumer Affairs beginning in 2000. The board was transferred to DPR from Consumer Affairs in October 2009.

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR STRUCTURAL PEST CONTROL BOARD
There are four openings — two each from industry and the public - that will be filled by Gov. Edmund G. Brown, Jr. Nominations will be accepted until the positions are filled.

PREC MEETING SCHEDULED
Our Pesticide Registration and Evaluation Committee will meet at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 20. The meeting will be Webcast. Agenda items include the California 2009 Urban Pesticide Use Pattern Survey and status of the copper antifoulant paint reevaluation.

EMERGENCY REGULATIONS DESIGNATING METHYL IODIDE A RESTRICTED MATERIAL NOW PERMANENT
Regulations that underwent the full rulemaking process took effect May 11.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR SCHOOL IPM WORKSHOPS
Workshops scheduled in Antelope, Sacramento County (June 1) and Yreka (June 22).

DPR OPERATIONAL PLAN AND COST ACCOUNTING FOR FISCAL YEAR 2010/11
DPR's operational plans and performance measures are posted each year, as are the functional accounting year-end reports and detailed descriptions of activities within each function. This allows stakeholders to review specific goals, costs associated with them and whether goals are being met.
