DPR Announces Availability of $400,000 in Pest Management Alliance Grants

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) is accepting proposals for projects that use integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to reduce pesticide use, Chief Deputy Director Chris Reardon announced today.

A total of $400,000 is available in Pest Management Alliance funding in the 2012-2013 cycle. DPR has eliminated the $200,000 limit, which means applicants can apply for the full amount if they choose.

Projects should focus on adoption and implementation of agricultural or urban IPM practices that reduce risks to human health and the environment. A key component of these projects is the formation of an alliance - a team of individuals representing public, private, agricultural, educational and other stakeholders in the adoption and implementation of urban and agricultural IPM practices.

DPR has awarded approximately $6 million in Alliance Grants to more than 60 projects since 1998. The grants are subsidized with special funds generated by fees on pesticide sales.

The grant application is a two-stage process. Brief conceptual descriptions of projects are due Feb. 6. Only groups submitting the highest-ranked concepts will be invited to submit a full proposal by April 5.
