October 28, 1997 California Notice 97-2 (revised)     TO: Interested Persons SUBJECT: AVAILABILITY OF TOXICOLOGY DATA REVIEWS IN AN ELECTRONIC FORMAT In June 1997, the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) announced (California Notice 97-2) the availability of its Medical Toxicology Branch toxicology data reviews in a WordPerfect© 6.1 format. These documents had been converted from an older scientific word processing program which is no longer in use. We subsequently discovered errors in the software conversion affecting scientific characters, italics and superscript, and cannot correct the converted WordPerfect© versions in the near term. As an alternative to converting the documents to WordPerfect© format, DPR initiated generating the reviews in the portable data file (PDF) format. In order to read the electronic reviews in their PDF format, requestors must install Adobe© Acrobat Reader on their computer. This helper application product is distributed freely on the Internet and can be downloaded from DPR's Home Page (www.cdpr.ca.gov). For your convenience, instructions for downloading and installing Adobe© Acrobat Reader are attached in a document entitled "How to View PDF Toxicology Data Reviews." If you have already requested an electronic copy of a toxicology data review for a particular active ingredient, DPR has prioritized the conversion of that review and Mr. Rudy Lapurga, of DPR's Pesticide Registration Branch, will provide you with an electronic copy of the review as soon as it is available in the PDF format. As reviews are converted to the PDF format, DPR will issue periodic updates of the attached Toxicology Data Review Summary List. The Toxicology Data Review Summary List provides names of active ingredients, their chemical codes, a notation about their electronic availability as a PDF and/or WordPerfect© file. Only the reviews prepared in WordPerfect© 6.1 are available in that format. All reviews prepared in the future will be in WordPerfect© 6.1 format.
