TO: Pesticide Registrants
SUBJECT: PRODUCT CHEMISTRY SUMMARIES
Certain types of product chemistry information may be submitted by applicants and registrants to the Department
of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) in summary form. This policy is currently in effect and is in accord with U.S. EPA's
PR Notice 98-1 allowing submission of a summary
sheet for specified types of product chemistry data.
Only eligible applicants and registrants as outlined in the PR Notice may submit summary lists to DPR. To be eligible,
the product must be produced by a "non-integrated formulation system as defined in the Code
of Federal Regulations, Title 40, Part 158.153," and must be formulated from a U.S. EPA registered source.
The following types of product chemistry data (physical and chemical properties) may be submitted in list form
or as a copy of U.S. EPA's Summary Form of the Physical/Chemical Properties (PR Notice 98-1). Each item must be
addressed; it is unacceptable to enter the statement "not required" unless a justification is included.
- Color
- Physical State
- Odor
- Oxidation/Reduction: Chemical Incompatibility
- Flammability/Flame Extension
- Explodability
- Miscibility
- Corrosion Characteristics
- Dielectric Breakdown Voltage
- pH
- Viscosity
- Density/Relative Density/Bulk Density
- Product Storage Stability (except microbial products which require submission of the study). Registrants of
microbial products who certify that the microbial product consists of killed organisms may submit a summary statement
for storage stability.
If one or more of the above properties is determined to be critical to evaluation of human or environmental
effects, DPR may require submission of the full studies. PR Notice 98-1 includes a similar provision for U.S. EPA.
Other required chemistry data must still be submitted as full studies.
