VOC Emission Targets and Allowances
Back to Regulations to Reduce VOCs by Controlling Field Fumigant Emissions
Regulations to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from fumigant pesticides affect five nonattainment areas (NAAs): San Joaquin Valley, Sacramento Metro, South Coast, Southeast Desert, and Ventura.
In 2011, four NAAs are likely to meet the targets as a result of requirements to use low- emission fumigation methods. However, in the Ventura NAA, even if all growers used low-emission methods, VOCs may not be reduced enough to achieve the required goal. This has triggered a fumigant emission limit that may restrict use for growers who plan to use fumigants between May 1 and October 31.
