Committees
About Our Committees
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) convenes a number of committees composed variously of public entities and interested party representatives to advance safe, effective, and sustainable pest management and inform the Department’s regulatory actions.
Pesticide Registration and Evaluation Committee (PREC)
The Pesticide Registration and Evaluation Committee (PREC) includes representatives of public entities whose activities impact, inform, or intersect with pesticide regulation. The purpose of this interagency body is to advise DPR on its regulatory actions and other pesticide decisions. View upcoming meeting dates.
Pest Management Advisory Committee (PMAC)
The Pest Management Advisory Committee (PMAC) advises DPR in evaluating and recommending Sustainable Pest Management grant proposal applications for funding. Its membership includes academia, public interest, and industry representatives.
Agricultural Pest Control Advisory Committee (APCAC)
Members of the Agricultural Pest Control Advisory Committee represent agricultural pest control advisers, applicators, dealers, as well as pesticide registrants. They advise DPR on matters concerning licensing and certification, educational requirements, study materials and examinations to support safe, sustainable pest management carried out by competent, responsible individuals and businesses.
Scientific Prioritization and Review Committee (SPARC)
DPR’s scientific advisory committee will advise the department on prioritizing actions associated with continuous evaluation and mitigation.
The Scientific Prioritization and Review Committee, or SPARC, will provide science-based recommendations to inform DPR’s transparent, data-driven process for identifying and addressing potential risks to human health and the environment from pesticide use. The committee will meet quarterly and serve as a public forum for discussing potential priority actions, including risk assessments, data requirements, mitigation development and, when warranted, product cancellation.
Environmental Justice Advisory Committee (EJAC)
As outlined in DPR’s strategic plan and consistent with legislation signed in 2023, DPR will, by January 2026, establish and convene the Environmental Justice Advisory Committee. DPR will provide updates as development of the committee progresses.
Sustainable Pest Management (SPM) Advisory Committee
The SPM Advisory Committee advises DPR on goals, tactics, policies, and partnerships that support the implementation of SPM statewide. This limited-term committee will meet quarterly over three years and serve as an advisory body to discuss barriers and opportunities for SPM adoption across California and inform DPR’s work to foster pest management approaches that promote human health and safety, ecosystem resilience, agricultural sustainability, community wellbeing, and economic vitality.
The SPM Advisory Committee will advance DPR’s mission to foster SPM and support the implementation of key strategic goals outlined in the Department’s 2024-2028 Strategic Plan.
