SUBJECT:
UPDATES TO VOLUME 3, RESTRICTED MATERIALS AND PERMITTING COMPENDIUM, INCLUDING ALUMINUM AND MAGNESIUM PHOSPHIDE FOR BURROWING RODENT CONTROL

This announces updates to Volume 3, Restricted Materials and Permitting , one of eight volumes of the Pesticide Use Enforcement Program Standards Compendium. Updates are enclosed and are also available online at the link provided below. Please have your staff begin using these updates as soon as possible. Hard copies of the updates will not be distributed.

To print revised portions of the manual, select from the enclosures or go to http://www.cdpr.ca.gov/docs/enforce/compend/vol_3/rstrct_mat.htm. It is recommended the sections be printed back-to-back, where applicable. For best results, print each enclosure and separately, remove old sections from the manual and insert new ones.

  • Restricted Materials and Permitting - Table of Contents
  • Appendix C, DPR Recommended Permit Conditions - Added Section C.8, Recommended Permit Conditions for aluminum and magnesium phosphide for burrowing rodent control. In 2010, the U.S. EPA required additional use restrictions, including a 100 foot distance from structures, in response to two deaths in Utah. (See ENF Letter 11-11 at http://www.cdpr.ca.gov/docs/county/cacltrs/penfltrs/penf2011/2011011.htm. DPR is recommending these permit conditions because there are products in the channels of trade which donít bear the new labeling restrictions to protect human health.

If you have any questions, please contact the Enforcement Branch Liaison assigned to your county.

Sincerely,
