New Report on Non-Agricultural Uses of Neonicotinoid Pesticides

DPR has released a report on the department’s evaluation of the impacts on aquatic organisms from the use of neonicotinoid pesticides on non-production outdoor ornamental plants, trees and turf. As required by Assembly Bill 363, DPR in March initiated a reevaluation of neonicotinoid pesticides containing acetamiprid, clothianidin, dinotefuran, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam intended for non-agricultural use on non-production outdoor ornamental plants, trees, or turf.

Currently, 105 registered pesticide products fall within the scope of the reevaluation. Effective January 1, 2025, state law prohibited the sale, possession and use of a pesticide containing one or more neonicotinoid pesticides on nonproduction outdoor ornamental plants, trees, or turf, with the exception of use and possession by state certified applicators and sale by state licensed pest control dealers.
