DPR Updates SprayDays California with New Features to Expand Usability
SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) today rolled out enhancements to SprayDays California, the state’s innovative pesticide mapping and notification system.
SprayDays provides timely, public information from farms across the state about scheduled use of restricted material pesticides—highly regulated pesticides in California. The tool allows users to explore an interactive map anonymously or sign up to receive free text or email notifications before restricted material applications occur near them.
DPR implemented new features in direct response to feedback from communities in unincorporated and traditionally underserved areas, as well as regional partners.
What’s New:
- Map-Based Sign-Up: In addition to entering an address, users can now subscribe to notifications by selecting a one-square-mile section on a map, making it easier for those in unincorporated areas to sign up and receive the same information they would if using a recognized address within that section.
- Recent Application Visibility: The pesticide map now highlights one-square-mile sections where applications were scheduled within the past four days. While this information was already available in the system, it is now easier for users to see where recent activity may have occurred.
“It is important that we provide Californians with access to information and services,” said DPR Director Karen Morrison. “These updates reflect our direct engagement with the public—especially those living and working in agricultural communities —and our commitment to ensuring SprayDays is working effectively as we continue to protect public health and the environment for all Californians.”
Since its launch:
- More than 20,500 visits exploring the interactive pesticide map
- More than 3,700 users have signed up for notifications across agricultural counties like Kern, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Ventura, and Fresno
- More than 30,000 notification messages delivered to subscribed users statewide
The SprayDays website also serves as a public resource hub with:
- A growing set of FAQs to better understand California’s pesticide regulations
- Pesticide safety tips and community health information
- Step-by-step user guides and video tutorials
DPR leads ongoing statewide outreach to raise awareness of SprayDays, answer questions, and offer context around California’s pesticide regulations. The department will also gather formal input on the tool annually through its Environmental Justice Advisory Committee, the California State Board of Food and Agriculture, and public forums.
