See What’s New in SprayDays California

SprayDays California, the state’s first-of-its-kind pesticide notification system, was designed to give Californians timely information about restricted material pesticide use in production agriculture.

DPR recently added two new features that make the system easier to use.

Watch a short how-to video (also available in Spanish) and read on for a step-by-step guide on how to use the new features.

1. See Recent Applications on the Map

The SprayDays pesticide map now highlights one-square-mile sections where pesticide applications were scheduled within the past four days. All applications included in SprayDays are intended but growers and applicators have up to four days to start a pesticide application after receiving approval from the county agricultural commissioner, and they might decide not to apply the pesticide at all.

This information has always been available in the system, but now it’s easier to find. In addition to seeing upcoming applications, you can quickly spot areas where recent activity may have occurred.

This feature is especially helpful if, for example, a pesticide application was scheduled for 7 a.m. but you didn’t check the map until 8 a.m. In the past, you might have missed that information unless you clicked the section—but now it’s visible right on the map.

Here’s how it works:

  • From the SprayDays home page, click “Pesticide Map.”
  • Explore the statewide map or search for a city or address in the top-left search bar.
  • Zoom all the way in to see a 1×1-mile grid.
  • Now, if a section has a dotted pattern, that means an application was scheduled in that section within the past four days.
  • As before, a boxed number shows the count of upcoming applications.
  • Some sections may show both dots and numbers—meaning both recent and upcoming activity.
  • Click on any marked section to open details about the specific applications.

You don’t need to sign up to explore the pesticide map—it’s open to everyone.

2. Sign Up by Map Section

SprayDays now makes it easier for people in unincorporated areas or those with addresses that don’t appear in standard databases to sign up for notifications.

In addition to signing up with a street address, you can now subscribe to notifications by selecting a one-square-mile map section. This ensures that everyone can receive notifications.

Here’s how to sign up by section:

  • From the SprayDays home page, click “Sign Up for Notifications.”
  • In Step 2 (“What location do you want notifications for?”), if your address doesn’t match or appear, click “Try subscribing to a section in your county.” This will take you to the new “Sign Up by Map Section” page.
  • In Step 2, you will now see the option to choose your county, which will open a map.
  • Zoom out, pan, and zoom in all the way to select your preferred 1×1-mile section.
  • Give your section a name (so you’ll recognize it later).
  • Finish signing up with your contact info, verify it with a code, and confirm your subscription.

Once you’re signed up, you can log in anytime to manage your locations, add new ones, or remove old ones.
