DPR Completes Mitigation Actions for Tribufos
The Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) has completed mitigation actions for tribufos, an organophosphate pesticide registered solely for use as a cotton defoliant in California. As part of DPR’s ongoing efforts to complete legacy items within the Continuous Evaluation and Mitigation process, this closeout helps clear the way for DPR to focus on new and emerging priorities.
DPR has been reviewing tribufos as part of its continuous evaluation process. In 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adopted label amendments to address risks to workers. DPR evaluated U.S. EPA label amendments and identified unmitigated risks. DPR proposed additional changes to the labels to reduce application rates and prohibit irrigation and weeding activities following its application, lowering the chances of exposure.
The tribufos mitigation actions will be marked complete as part of the next Continuous Evaluation and Mitigation Update during its next update in January 2026.
