SPM Grants
To accelerate the adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Sustainable Pest Management (SPM) across the state, the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) funds grant projects in agricultural, urban, and wildland settings.
DPR’s SPM Grants Program
DPR offers grants annually through the SPM Grants Program, which funds projects that advance sustainable pest management (SPM) practices through integrated pest management (IPM) research, knowledge, tools, outreach, and implementation in agricultural, urban, or wildland settings.
As part of DPR’s commitment to safer, more sustainable pest management, the historical Research Grants and Alliance Grants Programs have been combined and renamed to the SPM Grants Program.
The Pest Management Advisory Committee (PMAC) works with us to identify and promote strong IPM practices by reviewing and ranking the most qualified proposals. Together with PMAC, we provide funding recommendations to the department’s director, who determines the allocation of funds.
Sustainable Pest Management Grants Program
The Sustainable Pest Management (SPM) Grants Program annually funds projects that advance SPM practices through integrated pest management (IPM) research, knowledge, tools, outreach, and implementation in agricultural, urban, or wildland settings.
DPR’s SPM Grants Program is currently closed for applications. We expect to open our 2027 SPM Grants solicitation in Summer 2026.
Alliance Grants Program
The Alliance Grants Program funded projects that promoted or increased the implementation, expansion, and/or adoption of effective, proven, and affordable IPM systems or practices.
DPR’s Alliance Grants Program is no longer accepting applications. Beginning in 2026, the Alliance Grants Program was succeeded by DPR’s Sustainable Pest Management Grants Program.
Research Grants Program
The Research Grants Program funded research that advanced new IPM knowledge. Projects focused on reducing impacts to public health or the environment from pesticides of high regulatory interest.
DPR’s Research Grants Program is no longer accepting applications. Beginning in 2026, the Research Grants Program was succeeded by DPR’s Sustainable Pest Management Grants Program.
