Save the Date: Hearing on Proposed Eyewash and Decontamination Regulations
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) announced today that it will hold a virtual public hearing on the recently proposed changes to several sections of the pesticide worker safety regulations. The department released the proposed regulation on September 18, 2026, to increase worker protection by strengthening workplace decontamination requirements, improve compliance with eyewash standards, and clarify requirements for eyewash equipment and decontamination supplies. The proposal outlines requirements for employers to provide decontamination supplies for employees who handle pesticides, regardless of signal word. It would also update requirements for eyewash stations, personal eyewash units, and decontamination sites.
These changes are intended to improve worker safety, create consistent equipment standards, remove repeated requirements, and make the regulations clear to follow.
Public Hearing Scheduled on November 5, 2026
DPR will hold a public hearing to receive verbal or written comments on November 5, 2026. The hearing will be conducted virtually to ensure statewide accessibility.
The hearing will be conducted in English with Spanish interpretation provided. Information on accommodations, including requesting interpretation in additional languages, can be viewed within the regulatory notice.

Comment Period Extended – Submit a Public Comment
DPR is extending the public comment period to collect input through Nov. 5, 2026. The department initially announced a 45-day public comment period through Nov. 2, 2026, that is now being extended to account for submissions received during the scheduled hearing.
