Pesticide Registration Branch
Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR)
POLICY AND PROCEDURAL CHANGES in 2000
Exemption of Certain Products (25b-type) from Registration. Regulations are now in
place which exempt certain pesticide products from the requirement to register in California. The exemption is
similar to, but not identical to, the U.S. EPA exempted products under Section 25(b) of federal law. The criteria
for exemption in California are outlined in California Notice to Registrants 2000-6 which is available on our website
at www.cdpr.ca.gov under Programs and Services, Registration Branch.
Certain Structural Pest Control Devices will require Registration. Registrants are
reminded that devices intended to control structural wood-destroying pests will require registration by July 2001
or sale becomes unlawful. Details regarding this new law and the registration requirements for these devices are
found in California Notice to Registrants 2000-7. This notice is available on our website at www.cdpr.ca.gov under
Programs and Services, Registration Branch.
Staffing Increase. The additional staff received in late 1999 have completed their
training and are now assisting in decreasing the backlog and in expediting the processing of new submissions.
Further improvements in timeliness of processing submissions, particularly for reduced-risk products, are expected
for 2001.
Business Process Group. This group was formed by the Registration Branch to exchange
ideas for improving the pesticide product registration process. The group is composed of industry representatives
and DPR staff. Improvement goals include use of electronic submissions, better use of electronic tracking, shortened
time frames, and efficient use of resources. More information about this workgroup can be found on our website
at www.cdpr.ca.gov under Programs and Services, Registration Branch. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
Registration Desk Manual. The Registration Branch Desk Manual, which is an internal
working guide for the DPR Registration Specialist, is now available on the Registration Branch website at www.cdpr.ca.gov
under Programs and Services, Registration Branch.
Information available on DPR Website www.cdpr.ca.gov
The DPR home page contains more information than ever, with information being added on a regular basis. The website
