TO:
County Agricultural Commissioners
SUBJECT:

ENFORCEMENT OUTREACH DOCUMENT

The attached outreach document, "Pesticide Safety: It's the Law," was created by the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) for employers found to have violated pesticide laws or regulations. The document informs employers of their responsibility to assure that their employees comply with safe work practices. It also informs employers of their liability to civil penalties.

DPR is recommending that county agricultural commissioner staff provide a copy of this document to the employer whenever a noncompliance is noted on a pesticide use monitoring or field worker safety inspection. The document should also be provided to employers when safety-related noncompliances (i.e. training, medical supervision, hazard communication or application specific requirements) are noted on pest control record inspections. When an inspection with noncompliances is completed, a copy of the inspection and the outreach document should be delivered to the employer.

Your Liaison Senior Pesticide Use Specialist will distribute copies of the outreach document to you. We encourage you to use it to improve upon our compliance assistance outreach efforts.

If you have any questions, please contact your Liaison Senior Pesticide Use Specialist.

Sincerely,
