DPR ONLINE BULLETIN

This informal, online bulletin from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) appears periodically. Our goal is to keep interested parties up to date on practical information, regulatory developments, and other announcements.

COMMENTS SOUGHT ON ENFORCEMENT RESPONSE REGULATIONS
Feb. 28 is the deadline for comments on proposed revisions to appropriate enforcement responses to be taken by county agricultural commissioners each time a violation occurs. The intent of the amendments is to improve effectiveness and clarity of the regulations.

STRUCTURAL PEST CONTROL BOARD MEETING SCHEDULED
Our Structural Pest Control Board will meet on Thursday, Jan. 20 in Sacramento. Agenda items include proposed surface water regulations and ownership rights of knowledge gained from research projects funded by the board.

PREC MEETING SCHEDULED
Our Pesticide Registration and Evaluation Committee will meet at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21. The meeting will be Webcast. Agenda items include the investigation of birth defects and community exposures in Kettleman City, DPR's response to hexazinone found in ground water, the cooper antifoulant reevaluation and changes to soil fumigant labels.

CONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOP - RIVERSIDE
A Jan. 24 workshop is scheduled to discuss proposed changes to the California Code of Regulation, Section 6513. The changes will add a requirement to continuing education sponsors for reporting to DPR the same information that providers are currently required to maintain.

IPM INNOVATOR AWARDS TO BE PRESENTED
DPR's annual awards ceremony to recognize innovative pest management practices is Jan. 27.

PEST MANAGEMENT ALLIANCE GRANT PROPOSALS SOUGHT
The deadline for project concepts is 5 p.m. Feb. 7. A total of $400,000 is available. DPR is seeking team efforts that implement integrated pest management strategies to reduce pesticide use in urban or agricultural settings.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR SCHOOL IPM WORKSHOPS
Workshops scheduled for Hollister (Feb. 23), Hemet (April 4) and Chino Valley (April 28).

2011 LICENSING EXAM SCHEDULE
Instructions and schedule for the coming year.

NEW ACTIVE INGREDIENTS REGISTERED IN CALIFORNIA
In 2010, DPR registered 29 new pesticide active ingredients, 18 of them reduced-risk chemicals.

2011 RULEMAKING CALENDAR
The calendar outlines regulations expected to be proposed in the coming year and the legislation that authorized them.
