DPR ONLINE BULLETIN

This informal, online bulletin from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) appears periodically. Our goal is to keep interested parties up to date on practical information, regulatory developments and other announcements.

CHRIS REARDON APPOINTED CHIEF DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Congratulations to Chris Reardon, who was appointed chief deputy director by Gov. Brown last month. Reardon has served in multiple positions at DPR since 2003, including chief deputy director and director of legislation. He previously served as executive director of the Manufacturers Council of the Central Valley from 1996 to 2002. Reardon was chief of staff for former Assemblymember Sal Cannella from 1994 to 1996.

To add to our outreach efforts and better communicate with our constituents, DPR has created a Facebook page. We encourage all of you already using social media to “like” the page, and please share with your friends and constituents.

STRUCTURAL PEST CONTROL BOARD REAPPOINTMENT
Gov. Brown has reappointed Cliff Utley of Yucaipa to the board, where he has served since 2006. Utley has been president of Cliff’s Pest Control since 2001 and has worked there since 1993.

STRUCTURAL PEST CONTROL BOARD WILL TRANSFER TO NEW AGENCY UNDER GOVERNORS REORGANIZATION PLAN
The board will transfer from DPR to the new Business and Consumer Services Agency (SPCB) by July 1, 2013, under Gov. Brown's Government Reorganization Plan approved by the Legislature earlier this month. The board was transferred to DPR from the Department of Consumer Affairs in October 2009 as part of former Gov. Schwarzenegger's directive to consolidate and streamline state government. The board regulates the structural pest control industry, licensing business and individuals who conduct structural pest control.

PREC MEETING SCHEDULED
Our Pesticide Registration and Evaluation Committee will meet at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 20 in the Sierra Hearing Room. The meeting will be Webcast and include updates on the air monitoring network, neonicotinoid reevaluation and surface water regulations taking effect July 19.

PMAC MEETING CANCELED
The Pest Management Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for Aug. 9 has been canceled. The next meeting is scheduled on Nov. 8 in Sacramento.

REVISED ANNUAL VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUND EMISSIONS INVENTORY REPORT
The revised report corrects a technical error found in pesticide use report data and volatile organic compound emissions for a single product containing bifenthrin. The report contains emission information based on 1990-2010 pesticide use data for five areas in California that do not meet the federal Clean Air Act. The error had no effect on the status of the non-attainment areas.

One of five departments and boards within the California Environmental Protection Agency, DPR regulates the registration, sale and use of pesticides and fosters reduced-risk pest management to protect people and the environment. More information about DPR is posted at www.cdpr.ca.gov.
