DPR ONLINE BULLETIN
This informal, online bulletin from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) appears periodically. Our goal is to keep interested parties up to date on practical information, regulatory developments, and other announcements.
LAST OF THREE PUBLIC WORKSHOPS ON PROPOSED REGULATION CONCEPTS TO PROTECT SURFACE WATER SCHEDULED MAY 11 IN SACRAMENTO
Public comments sought on possible restrictions on several herbicides and insecticides that have been detected in many rivers and creeks in urban and agricultural areas of the state. Information posted includes responses to date on the proposed restrictions and more information on the workshop.
PMAC MEETING SCHEDULED
Our Pest Management Advisory Committee will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 13. The meeting will be Webcast. The committee is scheduled to review Pest Management Alliance Grant proposals and make recommendations to the department for funding.
PREC MEETING SCHEDULED
Our Pesticide Regulatory and Evaluation Committee will meet from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 20. The meeting will be Webcast. The committee is scheduled to review methyl isothiocyanate (MITC) mitigation measures, DPR’s Air Monitoring Network, and the Community/University Partnership to Assess and Prevent Environmental Exposures to Pesticides (CHAMACOS) Study.
METHYL BROMIDE FIELD FUMIGANT REGULATIONS PROPOSED
June 1 is the deadline for comments on proposed regulations for methyl bromide fumigation of soil before planting of agricultural crops. The proposed regulations focus on measures to prevent exposure to the public and agricultural employees.
QUALIFIED APPLICATOR LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION REGULATIONS PROPOSED
June 1 is the deadline for comments on these proposed regulations.
CONTINUING EDUCATION ACCREDITATION WORKSHOPS JUNE 17 IN SACRAMENTO AND JUNE 24 IN ARCADIA

CHLOROPICRIN PROPOSED AS TOXIC AIR CONTAMINANT
DPR has proposed listing chloropicrin as a toxic air contaminant. See final risk assessment and proposed decision.
REFORMULATION OF CERTAIN LIQUID PRODUCTS UPDATE
A reevaluation was initiated in 2005 to consider the reformulation of certain liquid pesticide products to reduce emissions from volatile organic
compounds (VOCs). See letter DPR recently sent to registrants describing how this process will focus on seven active ingredients that contribute the most VOCs.
PESTICIDE VOC EMISSION INVENTORY REPORT
The final report on pesticide VOC emissions for 1990-2008 shows all five nonattainment areas complied with state implementation plan goals.
REMINDER: DPR CLOSED THREE FRIDAYS A MONTH
Under Executive Order S-13-09, the California Environmental Protection Agency will close its departments, including DPR, boards and offices the first, second and third Fridays of each month through June 2010
